Abstract

Objective: To report a series of individuals diagnosed with conjunctival myxoma with a focus on the high-resolution anterior segment optical coherence tomography (HR-OCT) features of the myxoma. Methods: Retrospective case series of four individuals diagnosed with conjunctival myxoma and accompanying review of the literature. Results: Four individuals presented to our tertiary referral center with elevated pinkish conjunctival lesions. Biopsy confirmed conjunctival myxoma in all four cases. All lesions had highly concordant findings on high-resolution optical coherence tomography, including a normal epithelium and subepithelial, heterogeneous lesions with hyper- and hypo-reflective areas. The hypodense areas likely corresponded to paucicellular, myxoid material. Round and linear hypo-reflective spaces were present which correlated with cross-sectional and longitudinal sections of prominent vasculature in the substantia propria. Conclusions: Conjunctival myxoma has distinctive features on HR-OCT which can aid the clinician in arriving at a correct diagnosis and guiding therapy.
