Abstract

Objective To explore the characteristics and influencing factors of cognitive impairment in adult moyamoya disease (MMD). Methods A total of 466 adult patients with MMD (case group) admitted to Department of Neurosurgery, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University from June 2013 to December 2017 were retrospectively enrolled. The neuropsychological scale evaluation results were summarized. A matched group of 50 healthy adults were enrolled as the healthy control group. The characteristics of cognitive dysfunction were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of cognitive impairment in patients with MMD. Results Overall cognitive function, long-term memory, attention and executive function in the case group were significantly lower than those in the control group (all P 0.05). Conclusions According to the single-center experience of Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, cognitive dysfunction in adults with MMD involves specific cognitive domains and is affected by risk factors such as age, years of education and complications, while no significant difference in cognitive function has been found among different disease subtypes.
