Abstract

We have successfully detected images of photoelectron tracks with energies of 22 keV and 30 keV due to X-ray of /sup 109/Cd and /sup 241/Am, utilizing an optical imaging gas detector with a CCD camera. By taking several tens of images for 22 keV and 30 keV and analysing the images, the lengths of the photoelectron tracks were, measured to be about 1.7 mm and 2.8 mm for 22 keV and 30 keV, respectively. They are comparable to the calculated ranges of the electrons in xenon gas.
