Abstract

A low-cobalt ML(NiCoMnAlSnSi) 5 alloy was prepared by a gas atomization processing. The discharge capacity of the atomized powder was around 150 mAh/g which could be increased to about 200 mAh/g after heat treated at 850°C for 6 h. A good activation performance was observed for the atomized powder particularly when the particle size was small. The small particle size and the presence of minor phases were responsible for the quick activation. The rate capability of the atomized powder was also improved by heat treatment.
