Abstract

The hydraulic performance and internal flow in the cross flow in the cross flow turbine have been investigated fairly extensively. However, the characteristics of a system combining a cross flow turbine and a generator have not been examined. This paper describes the steady and dynamic characteristics of a cross flow turbine-DC generator system for small hydro electric power generation. To begin with, the steady characteristics of this system are analyzed by comparison of a fundamental equation, derived from a energy flow of this system, with the experimental results. Next, in order to clarify the dynamic characteristics of this system, the transient response characteristics at he load torque fluctuation are examined using a fundamental torque equation. Moreover, the frequency response characteristics are clarified by the use of a transfer function derived from applying a perturbation method to this torque equation.
