Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the characteristics that may influence fruit, vegetable, and dairy intake in older adults with hypertension. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a random sample of older adults who participate in a Pennsylvania pharmaceutical assistance program. Among those who reported having hypertension (N = 592), daily fruit/vegetable intake was more prevalent among women, those who were older, and those who spent more time with others. Daily intake of dairy foods was more prevalent among women and whites as well as those who exhibited certain health-conscious behaviors and those who spent more time with others.
