Abstract

The anode slime obtained from the copper electrorefining tank contains several valuable elements. The physico-chemical characteristics of the anode slime determines the processing route to recover these elements. The slime invariably contains Cu, Ni, Se, Te, Ag, Au & Platinum group metals (PGM). Several processing routes based on different pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical unit operations have been developed for the extraction of valuable metals from anode slime. In this chapter, an overview on the characterisation studies of the slime and the various processing routes with the special emphasis on established processes as well as recent advancements in the processing of anode slime have been described.
