Abstract

Introduction: The movement patterns of commodities transport drivers are useful in determining the optimization policy of other vehicle paths. One of the critical parameters in determining the optimal path represents the determination of a dense transportation route on the Pantura Highway. Pantura obtains saturation due to the vehicle loads. This saturation is caused by increasing fuel subsidies, increasing air and noise pollution, congestion, and accident costs. Method: This study aims to analyze the patterns of commodities transportation on the Pantura Highway of Java, which can be diverted to other preferred modes of transportation. The objects of this study are container trucks, which represent a mode of commodities transportation. The modes of transportation could be diverted to several alternatives, such as container ships and trains to progressively reduce road saturation. Result: As a consequence, the saturation could be minimized. Optimizing the patterns of movement of commodities transportation could use the k-prototypes algorithm to classify freight transportation on Pantura based on the similarity of the characteristics in terms of ten parameters. Conclusion: Based on the optimization results, there were three clustering, including the transportation of commodities with a distance of less than 200 km where it was difficult to transfer to other modes of transportation, commodities transportation with a distance of 200-600 km where it could be considered for policies related to the transportation of commodities that were difficult to rot, and the commodities transportation over a distance of more than 600 km where it could a bit also considered for perishable commodities.
