Abstract

The UL14 gene of herpesvirus belongs to the long UL region, which is a late expression gene. The protein encoded by the UL14 gene is a minor component of the virion tegument and plays a major role in virus replication by enhancing effects on the envelope and capsid transport to the nucleus. It is also involved in virus maturation, neurovirulence, antiapoptotic activity and regulation of the expression of IE gene. The subcellular localization of the UL14 protein distributed differently at different times. In this review, the characters of the UL14 gene and the characteristics and functions of UL14 protein are described.
