Abstract

This owl gave a weak response to the call playbacks and quickly retreated into the cavity, behaviour which suggests it may have been incubating eggs at the time. The nest site was not visited again in 2003. This year, the nest site is active again and the pair has been heard calling at the same site on several nights throughout March and April 2004 (MAB). Acknowledgments. We thank S Clow, T Coopper and J Hobbs for reviewing the manuscript. We also thank L Ramsay for providing information on the western screech-owl in British Columbia.
