Abstract

Abstract Morphological, physical, and chemical characteristics of soils developed on three physiographic units (sand dunes, interdunal areas, and alluvial terraces) in the arid zone of Punjab in Northwest India have been investigated. The soils developed on sand dunes are coarser in texture, lack subsurface diagnostic horizons, and are classified as Ustic Torripsamments. The soils developed on alluvial terraces are relatively fine textured, show the development of a structural B horizon, and are classified as Ustochreptic Camborthids. The soils of interdunal areas are intermediate in texture and are classified as Ustochreptic Camborthids.
