Characteristic parameters of the Abbott curve for the integral evaluation of 3D measured cylinder liner surfaces

Abstract

This article presents characteristic parameters that are typical of the height and shape of the Abbott Curve of 3D measured surface sections. These parameters allow an integral, functionally oriented evaluation of cylinder liners to be made with regard to their runningin behaviour, mechanical loading capacity and oil absorption. The new evaluation method was developed and tested in co-operation with the German automotive industry in the study group “3D Roughness Metrology”. The characteristic parameters have already been introduced to the ISO for the purpose of international standardisation.
