Abstract

Indonesia has great potential in developing refined palm oil products, especially biodiesel. The government has issued Regulation of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 12/2015 concerning National Energy Policy to encourage the use of biodiesel as an alternative fuel. However, the usage of Biodiesel 30 in diesel engines still leaving some problems such as the decline of biodiesel fuel quality and the formation of deposits in combustion chamber and injectors. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of deposits formation in biodiesel fuel B30 Indonesian National Standard (SNI), B30 export grade and B30 hydrotreated using hot chamber deposition test rig. Hydrotreated biodiesel has lower viscosity and density than SNI biodiesel and export grade biodiesel so that it will accelerate fuel evaporation process and produce less deposits.
