Abstract

Chemical investigation on the gum resin of Boswellia carterii afforded 14 compounds, including three triterpenoids (1-3), one nortriterpenoid (4), five cembrane-type macrocyclic diterpenoids (5–9), three prenylaromadendrane-type diterpenoids (10–12), one flavonoid (13), and one lignan (14). The structures of these compounds were established via spectroscopic analysis and comparison of their NMR data with the literature. Compound 1 was a new tirucallane-type tetracyclic triterpenoid, while compounds 13 and 14 were isolated from B. carterii for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of these isolated compounds was summarized herein.
