Abstract

Expansion of adipose tissue in type 2 diabetes is associated with increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. Moreover, biological sex is an important factor affecting how adipose tissue impacts overall cardiovascular health. However, despite decades of research, the precise sex-differences in the cellular constituents of adipose tissue and how disparate cell types change in the context of type 2 diabetes is unclear. Here, using high-dimensional flow cytometry and histology we aimed to characterise sex differences in brown and white AT (BAT and WAT, respectively) in non-diabetic and T2D mice (db/h and db/db).
