Abstract
In this paper, we propose an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to recognize characters. Character Recognition is a very emerging field in the area of pattern recognition. The task of character recognition starts with the extraction of the text from the image, the Morphological Processing is used to determine the text and non-text region. After the extraction of the text, segmentation of lines and characters is performed. The Y Histogram Approach is used to segment lines and Connected Component analysis is used to segment characters. Next, the Zoning technique is used to extract features of the characters. The k-means clustering technique is applied on the extracted feature values to determine the input parameters for the membership function of the ANFIS. After the recognition of characters using ANFIS, the recognized characters are further converted into speech.
