Abstract

This chapter examines Vattel's views on the peaceful settlement of inter-State disputes with the eyes of a modern internationalist. It then turns to what Vattel said, in Le Droit des gens , about the peaceful settlement of disputes between Nations, trying to highlight some essential points. The chapter then examines the extent to which his ideas are based on, and correspond to, those of Christian Wolff. It finally makes some observations on how Vattel is perceived today.
