Abstract
Vowels in open and closed syllables with the vowel length that is described above are transcribed without diacritics. Vowel length is in principle conditioned by syllable structure and position in the word. The length of vowels is determined by various factors. It is conditioned to a large extent by syllable structure and stress position. The short vowels have a typical duration of 50–70 milliseconds. Exceptions to the general principles of vowel length is described and these are found in some words of the dialect. Complementary distribution between open and closed syllables is, however, a tendency and not an absolute rule. On some occasions centralization takes place in pretonic or propretonic syllables. Keywords: closed syllables; open syllables; vowels
