Abstract

Abstract An overview of advancements and applications of liquid chromatography coupled to nuclear magnetic resonance (LC–NMR) is given and discussed for secondary metabolites in the plant kingdom: terpenoids, alkaloids and phenolic compounds. The different LC–NMR operating modes are presented in order to structure compound elucidation. On-flow and stop-flow modes are described, together with technical improvements such as LC–SPE–NMR and capLC–NMR. Synergetic combination of hyphenated techniques coupled to mass spectrometry and NMR is illustrated and discussed with an example.
