Abstract

We studied total phenolic content and phenolic composition in long-term (3–10years) Tartary buckwheat calli with different types of cell differentiation and distinct morphogenic ability. In nonmorphogenic calli (NCs), the content of phenolic compounds was 2.9–7.5 times less compared to morphogenic calli (MCs). Rutin, the content of which in MCs reached 0.87% of dry weight, was in trace amounts in NCs. We suppose that high rutin content in MCs of Tartary buckwheat relates to its synthesis in the proembryonal cell complexes (PECCs) being the typical feature of the most plant embryogenic cultures. Besides rutin, MCs contained phenolic acids, catechin, epicatechin, quercetin, and quercitrin.
