Abstract
This chapter discusses the aims and activities of the Emperors Vespasian, Hadrian and ‘Antoninus’—Caracalla at the spas, as reflected in the Classical literature and especially in the Rabbinic sources. It deals with the Laws of the Jews, includes a curious historical explanation. Emperor Hadrian (117–138 CE) was a man of great versatility: soldier, statesman, humanist, and political innovator. His legal, administrative and military reforms made possible the most splendid and tranquil epoch of the Roman Empire. The chapter discusses the thermo-mineral baths in Palestine reflect Hadrian’s private life as well as his visiting his army at the spas in the eastern Mediterranean basin during his reign.
