Abstract
The question of the relationship between and apocalypse holds perennial interest for scholars. John S. Kloppenborg's work is focused upon the hypothetical gospel source Q. John Dominic Crossan's work is in the field of historical Jesus research. An examination of the works of these two scholars, taken as representative of all those who follow this approach, can provide a useful starting point for this book. This chapter draws attention to the question of eschatology, and to the problem of whether the categories of realised and future eschatology are helpful to employ in scholarship, or whether they inevitably lead to the establishment of a false dichotomy. This provides the necessary backdrop to author's argument for the importance of inaugurated (or inaugural) eschatology in the ancient Jewish and early Christian texts.
