Abstract

The WISC-V is well-positioned as a test of cognitive abilities for the assessment of learning disabilities. The WISC-V is well-positioned as a test of cognitive abilities for the assessment of learning disabilities (LD) and contributes significantly in the diagnosis and intervention planning for children presenting with a LD. This chapter reviews the history and contemporary definitions of LD that derive from research, practice, and legislation. The WISC-V assesses key cognitive abilities that are linked to academic achievement and subtypes of LD. A detailed case study demonstrates the application of WISC-V results to LD assessment and diagnosis.
