Abstract

Hydrogen energy has become an essential pathway to deep decarbonization in addition to renewable energy However, the sustainability priorities of different hydrogen production pathways have not been determined. To assist the sustainability-oriented selection of hydrogen production pathways, this chapter proposed a multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) methodology framework for the sustainability prioritization of hydrogen energy systems. This MCDM framework used the fuzzy best-worst method to derive the performance of the soft criteria by using linguistic terms. After that, the fuzzy best-worst network method is introduced to allocate weights to the criteria by taking the interdependencies and interactions among the criteria into consideration. This chapter used four ranking methods to prioritize the sustainability sequence of the hydrogen energy systems. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis method was used to evaluate the robustness of the proposed MCDM methodology. It also conducted a case study to demonstrate the proposed MCDM framework by evaluating the sustainability performance of five different technological systems for hydrogen production.
