Abstract
Migration management is at the heart of the world's political agenda. The enormous institutional experiment that has taken place in Kosovo since 1999 shows that the relation between migration, security and effective sovereignty is fundamental for the correct development of national and international relations, particularly in the course of a nation-building operation. Border management can be defined as an ensemble of legal and operational tools that regulate the inflows and outflows of persons and goods through territories. The overall inefficiency of UN Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK) in addressing border management challenges is a reflection of an obsolete concept of peace operations, especially with regard to the importance of criminal justice and policing in peace operation theaters.Keywords: border management; migration management; UN Interim Administration in Kosovo (UNMIK)
