Abstract

Over the past 50 years, there have been significant commercial and academic advances in metal-sulfur batteries technology, especially lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. Due to their high theoretical energy density and low cost, the Li-S batteries have become one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage systems for power batteries. Despite the impressive progress in the development of Li-S batteries, the analysis of the key parameters affecting the energy density of Li-S batteries is still lacking. In this chapter, the basic structure, energy storage mechanism, and electrode material of Li-S batteries are briefly reviewed.
