Abstract
This chapter discusses frequency measurement. Frequency is one of the few quantities in electronics that can and must be measured to a very high degree of accuracy. Frequency measurement should appeal to the electronic or radio engineer perhaps more than other types of measurement work, especially as it involves the use of oscillators and similar devices. The use of crystal oscillators in radio transmitters is well known. Such crystal oscillators can be used to control a multivibrator set to work on a subharmonic. Digital frequency meters are used to directly measure frequencies to a high degree of accuracy. When the two waves are not of the same fundamental frequency, very complicated figures are produced. However, if one is an exact multiple of the other, the figure will be stationary, for every cycle of the lower frequency will be alike. This principle is used for comparing two frequencies or for adjusting one to an exact multiple of another.
