Abstract

This chapter discusses the Palatine Court and Liverpool court of passage in the United Kingdom. The County Palatine of Lancaster still has a court of its own which is known as the Court of Chancery of Lancaster. There is in addition an Attorney-General of the County Palatine and Duchy of Lancaster. The jurisdiction of this court is regulated by a number of statutes, while the procedure of the court is regulated by rules that have the effect of assimilating the procedure in the Palatine Court to that of the High Court of Justice. The jurisdiction of the Liverpool court of passage in personal actions where the defendant resides or carries on business within the jurisdiction of the court is unlimited as to amount, provided that no such action can be commenced where only part arises within the jurisdiction, if the county court has cognizance thereof and the sum involved does not exceed £20 and the defendant does not reside or carry on business within the jurisdiction.
