Abstract

Only 2.3% of patients admitted to this study had multiple gastric ulcers. There was no difference between patients with single and multiple ulcers with respect to race, age, associated duodenal ulcer, degree of acid output, size of ulcer, or frequency of recurrence. In one instance, lymphoma of the stomach was associated with multiple ulcers. The individual ulcers may heal as frequently in patients with multiple ulcers as in patients with single gastric ulcer; however, on the simple basis of probability, the more ulcers there are the greater is the chance that at least one of them will not heal.
