Abstract

The recent revolutions in robotics, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), wearable devices, machine learning, and big data analytics have revealed promising possibilities in biomedical and healthcare technologies and may be extended to the terahertz (THz) spectrum also. The current chapter deals with theoretical, methodological, and empirical concepts with extensive examples related to the application of these technologies in THz healthcare. Application of THz in emerging healthcare is evident, with various notable applications in, e.g., security, medical imaging, biology, material spectroscopy and sensing, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and communications. Details of THz medical imaging and emerging trends in telemedicine using artificial intelligence techniques in robotics in healthcare are discussed from the perspective of THz healthcare. Telerobotic surgery and the Internet of Robotic Things are discussed briefly in the same context. Furthermore, details on various advances in the IoT and available wearable and smart devices targeting biomedical and healthcare applications, capable of data collection and analysis by standard protocols of machine intelligence for predictions of health-related issues, are discussed. Last, the expansion and evolution of these technologies in the context of the THz healthcare system and biomedical research are described.
