Abstract

Abstract IWRM analysis and planning are usually done at basin level, but decision making is usually based on administrative boundaries such as districts. This chapter first highlights the hydrological inter-relationships that must be considered in analyzing water demands and supplies for a district that lies entirely within a river basin—the Pali district in the Luni river basin in western Rajasthan—before detailing a methodology for assessing district water demands and water supplies. After projecting potential water demands in 2025, it analyzes the gap between water demands and supplies and suggests various interventions to close the demand-supply gap. It not only works out the potential impact of each of these types of interventions, but also estimates what it would take to close the gap by 2025.
