Chapter 8 - Biomedical application of marine extremozymes

Abstract

The marine microbial enzymes are important sources for medical and industrial application. In recent years, the enzymes from extreme marine microbes got considerable attention in the industry and biomedical field for new enzymes. Also, the marine microbial enzymes are more stable and very active compared with the terrestrial plants, animals, and various other sources. It offers significant advantages to industry, pharmaceutical, and healthcare settings due to their unpredicted environmental conditions such as temperature, pH, NaCl, light, pressure, carbon, and nitrogen sources. Similarly, the bioprospect of antibiotics from marine microbes is increasing in demand, particularly in the treatment of various diseases. Considering the importance of microbial enzymes from the marine environment, this chapter is focused on the advantages of marine extremozymes and their essential functions against various biomedical applications.
