Abstract

Caregiving is physically and emotionally draining, and public awareness of the unique needs of family caregivers is on the rise. Implementation of support-based programs has been found to successfully decrease depression and levels of stress and have also highlighted the substantial benefits present in caregiving. Unique implementation initiatives include the New York University Caregiver Intervention, Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health, Caring for You, Caring for Me, and virtual support. The execution of these initiatives has been carried out across a number of states. This chapter will highlight the impact of these evidence-based and evidence-driven programs. Particular attention will be given to how these programs address care gaps. There is no doubt that more initiatives are on the horizon to support caregivers throughout the United States, and one of our most challenging tasks is helping caregivers discern the distinctions and potential benefits to extend and bolster the considerable help they provide to older adults in need.
