Abstract

HumanCAD is a digital human modeling (DHM) software solution that is used to create DHMs within three-dimensional (3D) environments to verify that humans of various anthropometries can fit into an environment, reach an object, see an object, perform lifting tasks safely, and more. The current HumanCAD platform is the fifth generation with the first version released in 1990 as ManneQuin a 2D solution and was the world's first PC-based human modeling solution that was followed by ManneQuinPRO several years later. As computing power increased, the capabilities of NexGen's DHM solution have advanced considerably. Users can create male and female DHMs using various databases or customize their own model which can be saved. The model created can either be standard or advanced where each vertebra and cervical area is modeled and can be manipulated. Children DHM can also be created. With the HumanCAD inverse and forward kinematics and 3D manipulator, it is easy to position a DHM in a 3D environment. Users can capture postures that can be added to the Posture Library using Microsoft Kinect. HumanCAD also includes the ability to use multiple biomechanical models and various ergonomic analysis methods such as NIOSH, RULA, OWAS, Energy Expenditure, Snook and Mital tables, and more.
