Abstract

This research was designed to identify characteristics of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Best Practice Award winners. Lessons learned from award winners can be used to improve methods of linking housing and community services for low-income elders. Data were derived from applications for the HUD 1994 Best Practice Award competition. Characteristics that differentiated award winners from non-winners were identified. Findings suggested that award winners provided access to a significantly greater number of supportive and health services. Findings also suggest that award winners were more adept at utilizing community resources. The results of this study are useful in the continued development of comprehensive aging-in-place programs for low-income elderly.
