Abstract

The chapter describes the impact of organic agriculture on human health and ecosystem. This chapter presents the reasons behind the popularity of organic farming and organic foods with the best available knowledge in consumer-based studies. The nutritional and health benefits of organically grown plant and animal foods in comparison to conventionally grown foods are discussed in the chapter with evidence-based studies which reflect the impact of organic farming on human health. The effect of organic farming on human ecosystem is discussed in this chapter in the context of effective energy use during farming, greenhouse gas emission, quality maintenance, soil quality, and maintenance of biodiversity and soil integrity. This chapter is an understanding on the effect of organic farming on human health and ecosystem as compared to conventional farming.
