Abstract

This chapter describes the causes of stridor and laryngotracheal airway obstruction in neonates. Laryngotracheal anatomy and the pathophysiology of each condition are reviewed. The most common causes of neonatal stridor are highlighted as laryngomalacia, vocal cord paralysis, and subglottic stenosis. Less common causes are also discussed, including laryngeal cysts, glottic webs, subglottic hemangioma, tracheomalacia, tracheal stenosis, and vascular rings.
