Abstract

Specific types of movement disorders occur in young children in association with specific stages of development or at characteristic ages. Most of these are benign conditions, but can be a cause for concern due to their resemblance to more worrisome disorders and their emergence out of a normal background. Disorders discussed in this chapter include benign neonatal sleep myoclonus, benign myoclonus of early infancy, jitteriness, shuddering, paroxysmal tonic upgaze of infancy, spasmus nutans, head nodding, benign paroxysmal torticollis, benign idiopathic dystonia of infancy, Sandifer syndrome, and infantile masturbation.
