Abstract
In tropical countries, coconut fruits (Cocos nucifera) are widely cultivated. The utilization of coir fiber-enhanced biocomposites is growing today as the need for sustainable, renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable products is steadily growing. In general, coconut husks and coats are waste materials, but may be used as popular raw materials for environmental friendly biocomposite manufacturing. Coir fibers are firm and rigid, which are the preconditions for biocomposite coir fibers. In this chapter, the properties and composition of coir fibers are discussed. Furthermore, matrix materials for coir fiber composite are explained. In addition, the extraction and method of treatment of coir fiber are explained. Moreover, the way of preparation of coir fiber composites and their application are expressed.
