Abstract

This chapter delves into the health and nutritional perspectives of traditional and ethnic foods within the Northern Belt of Ghana, illustrating the unique culinary practices and dietary habits of the region. Elucidating a comprehensive analysis of indigenous ingredients, preparation methods, and cultural significance, the chapter explored the intricate relationship between traditional foods and the local population's well-being. Again, focus was placed on the rich biodiversity and nutritional value of these traditional food commodities, and common dishes that are prepared from these. The presentation encompasses the potential contribution of these food commodities in addressing contemporary health challenges and nutritional deficiencies. Additionally, the cultural and social dimensions associated with the consumption of traditional foods, considering their role in preserving cultural identity and fostering community well-being was examined. By providing insights into the nutritional merits and cultural significance of traditional and ethnic foods in the Northern Belt of Ghana, this chapter contributes to a broader understanding of the interplay between traditional diets, health, and cultural heritage.
