Abstract

This chapter gives a comparatively systematic examination over the challenges globalization has posed to nation-states and their sovereignty. It offers informative analyses on the main new theories of state sovereignty, especially the global governance theory, in modern Western countries. First of all, globalization is the economic integration. But the economic leg of globalization will inevitably exert profound impacts on the whole society including politics and culture. It has changed fundamentally man's production, consumption and trade but also way of thinking and behaving. Globalization has influenced greatly political values, behaviors, structures, powers and procedures. Finally the chapter comes to conclusions on the challenges globalization has posed to state sovereignty and nation-state's status. Also, it comes up with recommendations for China's national strategy to deal with the challenges from globalization.
