Abstract
The chapter offers an introduction to flame atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy, giving the basic principles of the instrumentation with focus on the techniques of atomization, sample introduction, methods of background correction, sources of chemical interferences, and method of their removal. The chapter also highlights the comparison between flame atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy as well as the quantitative estimation of trace level of metal ions from water samples using these techniques.
