Abstract

Founded in 1821, even before Michigan was an official US state, the University of Michigan is the oldest research university in the state of Michigan. It has been designated as a university with high research activity, and it is also consistently ranked as one of the top universities in the United States. The University of Michigan Libraries has also been a leader in many digital initiatives such as JSTOR and the Google Books digitization project.
