Abstract
In this chapter, a whole new centralized waste-integrated biorefinery is designed and simulated. Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) and municipal solid waste (MSW) were used as raw material for waste biorefinery. The gasification and combustion were selected as main thermochemical process for waste-integrated biorefinery. Waste biorefineries are designed and compared with three different gasifiers—the entrained flow gasifier (EFG), circulating fluidized bed gasifier (CFBG), and dual fluidized bed gasifier (DFBG). Main products selected from biorefinery were district heating (DH), electric power and biofuels. The centralized waste-integrated biorefinery was designed and modeled in Aspen Plus. Methane, methanol/dimethyl ether (DME), FT fuels (diesel or gasoline), and ammonia from the waste biorefinery were considered as potential biofuels. Four operational case studies were designed. The waste biorefinery was simulated under conditions designed for each case study.
