Abstract

This chapter examines the asset management, wealth management, and research businesses of investment banks. Asset management refers to the professional management of investment funds for individuals, families, and institutions. The majority of the asset management industry exists outside of investment banks, but many investment banks maintain a sizable presence. Wealth management refers to providing investment advice and services to selected individuals and families. Research is provided by all large investment banking firms to institutional clients, and sometimes others, on a global basis. This research usually covers equity, fixed income, currency, and commodity markets.
