Abstract

The energy sector of Russia is extremely big and is complicated a system. In the past few years, the processes of privatization and decentralization have taken place in Russia, like everywhere else. In this chapter, one narrow area of energy sector of Russia—wind power development is discussed and analyzed as to why the giant wind energy resources of Russia are still unsullied. The real goal for Russia's wind power development could be the replacement of all old fashioned nuclear power stations or at least implementation of the same quantity of electricity, as from the old nuclear power stations and from the wind turbines. 8242 MW of installed capacity at nuclear power stations and 39.4 TWh of electricity production should to be phase out of operation up to 2020.
