Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter analyzes the compounds with seven-membered and larger rings containing one or more atoms of unusual hetero elements together with nitrogen or elements of group VI. 8-Mercura-1,4-dioxadibenzo[f,i]cycloundeca-6,9-diene is an example of mercury compounds. Aluminum and boron compounds include compounds containing oxygen and/or sulfur as additional elements, compounds containing nitrogen as the additional element, and compounds containing nitrogen together with oxygen and/or sulfur as additional elements. A similar classification is made for the silicon, germanium, tin, phosphorus, arsenic and antimony compounds. For the silicon, germanium, tin compounds, compounds containing oxygen and/or sulfur as additional elements consist of oxasila compounds and germanium and tin analogues, di-, tri- and tetra-oxasilepins and related compounds, oxadisilepins and so on. Compounds with nitrogen as the additional element include azasilepines, azapolysilepines, and related compounds. This chapter while discussing larger ring compounds of unusual hetero elements containing oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen, also mentions a group of compounds from elements spanning the Periodic Table, and which, collectively, are called “atranes”, described more systematically as 1-aza-4-M-4,6,11-trioxabicyclo[3.3.3]undecanes. Some physiological activity particularly anti-fungicidal is shown by a number of these compounds.
