Abstract

Societies worldwide have been afflicted by neurological disorders. Yet, historically, research in this field has been hindered by social stigma, the prevailing scientific hypotheses, and the technology available at any given time. The cellular responses to drugs could not be investigated until expenditure on such research was deemed “acceptable,” and tools were developed to study complex biochemical pathways including the use of animal models. The knowledge and awareness of animal models of neurological disease have advanced considerably in relatively recent years and have further our understanding of the disease process. Nevertheless, it is challenging even for well-established researchers to keep abreast of research related to animal models of neurological disease. To assist colleagues who are interested in understanding more about animal models of neurological disease, we have therefore compiled resources as recommended by active practitioners and researchers to produce tables of important and useful information. These tables list links to more than 120 websites identifying regulatory bodies, societies, organizations, and other sources of information. Over 40 books are also listed.
