Abstract
ABSTRACT Teachers tend to relate to the psychological-emotional rewards of teaching as a central component of their work. Yet programs of teacher education, introducing student teachers to the problems, dilemmas and difficulties of teaching, neglect this important, motivating aspect of the profession. This chapter presents teacher narratives concerning the rewards of teaching. Several explanations for focusing on psychological-emotional rewards are discussed. The chapter ends with some suggestions for introducing issues of professional rewards into teacher education programs.
