Abstract

This chapter introduces the microalgae cultivation for biogas upgrading and the possibility of using oleaginous microalgae for this purpose. The factors affecting the performance of the microalgae for biogas upgrading and lipid production, including biogas composition, gas flow rate, light intensity and wavelength, nitrogen source and its concentration, are intensively discussed. Finally, the innovative concepts of combining three processes of biogas upgrading, lipid production, and phytoremediation of industrial wastewater by the pure and co–cultivations of microalgae with other microorganisms are proposed.
